The 45th Tank Brigade Litauen has successfully completed three weeks of command post verification and validation training, where tactical procedure and coordinated, interoperable C2 of a defensive operation within the 10th Armored Division was at the center of the exercise.
“The training event has demonstrated that the Brigade has made it past its first critical and highly successful milestone towards command capability, i.e. operational capability as well. Professionalism and readiness of military personnel is the foundation of our prospective mission in Lithuania,” said Commander 45th Tank Brigade Litauen Brigadier General Christoph Huber.
Approx. 150 troops of the brigade HQ, HQ and Service Company and the Signals Company were training to install and run a command post. The exercise established and consolidated functioning of a brigade command post in real-life conditions. The expertise developed in the course of the training will be applied directly for getting ready for Brigade Exercise Freedom Shield 2026. It will further consolidate the brigade-level C2 procedures and put to test the Brigade’s combat readiness in realistic conditions.
Commander of the 10th Armored Division Major General Jörg See validated the Command Capability as the Initial Operational Capability after observing the training. He recognized it as a “key milestone” in the process of building the Brigade.
The Command post verification and validation training is the principal element of the Roadmap Plan centered around developing Command Capability of the 45th Tank Brigade Litauen by the end of 2025. The other milestones await in 2026, such as integration of the Multinational Battle Group Lithuania and changing subordination of the 122nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion from Oberviechtach and the 203rd Armored Battalion. When this phase is completed, the Brigade will continue developing its command structure and capabilities to contribute to the NATO collective defence in composition of the 10th Armored Brigade.
The 45th Tank Brigade Litauen is a Bundeswehr Brigade developed for stationing permanently in Lithuania. It is subordinate to the 10th Armored Divisions, Germany’s principal contribution in strengthening deterrence and defence in the eastern flank. The Brigade is scheduled to reach Full Operational Capability by the end of 2027.
