April 11, Chief of Defenec of Lithuania Lt Gen Arvydas Tutkus is paying a formal visit in Georgia, so far he has met with Chief of Defence of Georgia Maj Gen Devi Tchankotadze and other representatives of Georgia's military leadership. At the meeting security situation in the region has been discussed , defence reforms underway, perspectives of bilateral cooperation, joint involvement in the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force's (ISAF) operation in Afghanistan, Georgia's aspirations to joint NATO.
While visiting Tbilisi Chief of Defence of Lithuania laid flowers at the memorial for Georgian national heroes killed for the integrity of their motherland.
Chief of Defence of Lithuania also paid a visit to the National Defence Academy of Georgia (in Gory) where he met with Vice Minister for Defence of Georgia Andro Barnovi for a discussion over the system of military training in Georgia, and delivered a lecture for the academic community on the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
At the National Military Academy of Georgia Lt Gen Arvydas Pocius also opened a photography exhibition illustrating service of Lithuanian peacekeepers in the multinational operation in Afghanistan.
Later Lithuanian Chief of Defence and his delegation visited the National Training Centre of Georgia "Krtsanisi".
After visiting modern military education and military training facilities Chief of Defence of Lithuania emphasized that a good military training program is an investment into the young generation, future armed forces where trained and professional military personnel capable of conducting wide spectrum tasks will be unconditionally required.
Chief of Defence will end the visit in Georgia on April 2012.
Lithuania and Georgia has been developing defence cooperation since 2001. Practical Defence Cooperation Plan signed between the countries last year covers studies of Georgian military representatives at the Lithuanian Military Academy, the English Language Course and the Junior Staff Course, as well as studies at the Baltic Defence College in Tartu, courses for military medics and NCOs held in Lithuania, consultations of professionals of both countries' specialists in logistics, military-civil cooperation and other areas.
