On October 12-18 Lieutenant General Jonas Vytautas Žukas is conducting his first formal visit in the United States as Chief of Defence of Lithuania. Lt. Gen. J. V. Žukas will visit Washington and Pennsylvania, meet with representatives of the US Armed Forces, Lithuanian community in the US, and attend an international security conference.
On October 13 the Chief of Defence of Lithuania will meet with US military, Department of Defence representatives, U.S. Congress advisors, ambassadors of NATO and the EU, and Defence Attaché corps at an event held by the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in the United States to mark the upcoming Lithuanian Armed Force Day.
On October 14 meetings with Commander US Army General Mark A. Milley, Chief of the National Guard Bureau General Joseph L. Lengyel, and representatives of the Joint Chiefs of Staff are scheduled to address prospects of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, and plans of the US Armed Forces in Europe.
Lt. Gen. J. V. Žukas also plans sharing his insight into the security situation in the Baltic region, and present the plans for strengthening Lithuania's defence capabilities and defence cooperation with NATO and the US at a meeting with Lithuanian-American Community.
While in Pennsylvania on October 15, the Chief of Defence is expected to discuss security situation and military cooperation with Pennsylvania's Adjutant General Brig. Gen. Tony Carrelli and tour military training facilities of the Pennsylvania National Guard.
On October 17 Lt. Gen. Žukas will attend international conference held by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joseph F. Dunford Jr. in Washington on Fight with Violent Extremist Groups. The conference will address the ways such groups act in Europe, US, Asia, Middle East, and Africa, and possible improvements to the ways of countering them.
