On May 27-28 Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lieutenant General Arvydas Pocius will attend a conference of Nordic and Baltic CHODs in Tallinn, Estonia. At the event the Nordic and Baltic Chiefs of Defence are expected to address the security situation in the Baltic Sea and region, the ongoing and future military exercises, multinational operations and points of cooperation to the end of efficient employment of available resources.
The Nordic and Baltic CHODs will also discuss issues of cooperation with the Supreme Allied Commander Europe General Philip M. Breedlove, Chief of Defence of Poland Lieutenant General Mieczyslaw Gocul and Commander of the Pennsylvania National Guard Major General Wesley E. Craig.
Lithuania's cooperation with Nordic countries began as early as 1994 with the endorsement of the first military cooperation agreement with Denmark, a member of NATO by then. More than 400 Lithuanian military servicemembers have been studying in long-term courses in Scandinavian countries, the Nordic countries continue supporting trilateral projects of the Baltic States, while Norway and Denmark deployed their air capabilities to the NATO Baltic Air Policing Mission. Scandinavian countries have also rendered manifold material support both for the modernisation of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and training of personnel and units within the country.
