February 8, Chief of Defence of Lithuania Maj. Gen. Arvydas Pocius conducting formal visit in the United States of America met with Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Mike G. Mullen and other officers of the Pentagon.
Major attention in the meeting was paid to the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) operation in Afghanistan. Maj. Gen. A. Pocius and Adm. M. G. Mullen discussed possible cooperation of armed forces of both countries while organising training for Afghan policemen in Ghowr where Lithuania is leading a PRT. Lithuanian CHOD also highlighted for US colleagues the opportunity to transit non-military supplies for ISAF.
In the meeting NATO Baltic Air-policing mission and its importance, possibilities of arranging joint training with the USA for special operations forces, and other current issues of bilateral and multilateral military relations were discussed.
While on the visit, Maj. Gen. A. Pocius is due to visit United States Naval Academy where three Lithuanian cadets are taking courses, and meet with leadership of the National Guard of the United States.
