Chief of Defence of Lithuania General Raimundas Vaikšnoras and Senior Enlisted Leader Darius Masiulis and delegation visited Operation Interflex providing training assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the United Kingdom. Since the beginning of the UK-led operation, over 45 thousand Ukrainian troops have been trained over the two and a half years.
The Lithuanian delegation visited Lithuanian troops on the international deployment to hear first-hand impressions of experience in training Ukrainian colleagues, learn about the challenges they faced and find solutions later in collaboration with the Allies. The Lithuanian military get praises for the operation from the NATO Allies, therefore the 20-strong contingent have been entrusted with the training of a separate group.
“Multinational deployments allow our troops to become more knowledgeable and experienced in a way that back home in Lithuania is not possible, the immediate collaboration with Ukrainian colleagues transfers their unique experience,” said Gen Raimundas Vaikšnoras after the visit to the operational base.
Lithuanian instructors from the Training capabilities of the Lithuanian Armed Forces serve side by side with instructors deployed by Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Estonia, Australia and other NATO Allies and partners. Medical support to the operation is ensured by the MD Jonas Basanavičius Military Medical Service personnel.
Lithuanian troops are also assisting Ukraine with training military units through the European Union Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine), while courses for separate specializations and soldier, NCO and officer career are offered in Lithuania.
