Earlier this week, Chief of the Defence Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Rear Admiral Giedrius Premeneckas took part in the European Security Strategy and Workshops (ESCW) hosted by the United States European Command (USEUCOM).

This year the Conference is themed “To Build, Modernize and Integrate” in reflection of the collective Allied will to consistently enhance military capabilities, integrate innovation and ensure a close interoperability of Allied action in response to the growing security threats.  

The Conference particularly centered on the security situation assessment as restructuring of the conventional military capabilities of the Russian Federation and the arising threats to the European security was addressed in its sessions. A major portion of the event was dedicated to the transatlantic defence industry aiming to step the cooperation between the United States and European Allies thus increasing collective defence capabilities and technological compatibility. 

Other topics addressed at ESCW sessions were development of and expansion of logistical capabilities with an emphasis of the importance of logistics and supply to the command chain, which is key in the Alliance’s ability to move forces, ensure their sustention and maintain high operational readiness. Collective response to hybrid threats were addressed at the Conference by means of analyzing action of hostile countries that impact the European security and the necessary directions of investment to ensure an efficient response to such threats.  

Chief of the Defence Staff had separate bilateral meetings with Deputy Commander USEUCOM Lieutenant General Robert C. Fulford and Pennsylvania National Guard (PANG) Adjutant-General Major General John R. Pippy on the margins of the event.

At the meeting with Deputy Commander USEUCOM regional security challenges were discussed alongside with means to strengthen NATO deterrence and defence, and practical aspects of integrating the Lithuanian Armed Forces in the collective Alliance defence structures.

With Adjutant-General of the Pennsylvania National Guard Rear Admiral Giedrius Premeneckas discussed the lasting partnership between the Lithuanian Armed Forces and the Pennsylvania National Guard, capability development, continuation of mutual activities and sharing experience in order to strengthen the mutual interoperability.
