Chief of the Defence Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Lt Gen Remigijus Baltrėnas and staff officers paid a visit to Ukraine. The Lithuanian delegation met with Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine Major General Andrii Hnatov, commanders of the Air Forces and medical service, toured the UAV Operator Training Centre and the Joint Operations Centre.
The Defence Staff delegation received the most essential in-depth updates on the battlefield developments and ongoing operations, organization of air defence over capital Kyiv, UAVs, electronic warfare and fortification systems.
“The contacts concerning transfer of lessons learned and best practices of Ukraine’s warriors made during the Chief of Defence’s visit to Ukraine is already proving directly beneficial in improving combat readiness of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. What the Lithuanian delegation learns from the Ukrainians improves Lithuania’s combat readiness, strengthens Lithuania’s national defence and integration of new technology in the Lithuanian Armed Forces,” said Lt Gen R. Baltrėnas.
At the Unmanned Systems Forces of Ukraine, the delegation familiarized in detail with the UAVs and electronic warfare means used by the Ukrainians. The officers had the opportunity to observe the operations first-hand and to receive briefings on the efficiency of technological and tactical solutions.
The delegation led by Chief of Defence of Lithuania visited Ukraine in December 2024 to reassure the Ukrainians that Lithuania was going to continue rendering training assistance on its territory and in international formats Interflex and EUMAM, as well as the support to treatment and rehabilitation of the injured in military medical institutions, and also military aid.
The Lithuanian Armed Forces have already trained over 3000 Ukrainian servicemembers, commanders and specialists across different formats this year. Before the wide-scale conflict broke out and since, the Lithuanian Armed Forces has handed over EUR 700 million worth of military equipment, weapons, bullets and other ammunition besides other types of support that is difficult to calculate directly.
