From October 30 to November 1 Command Staff personnel of the Mechanised Infantry Brigade "Iron Wolf" took part in multinational exercise organised by the Danish Advisory and Training Staff (DATS) in Riga (Latvia). The training event was also attended by Latvian and Estonian military personnel.
The exercise trained the Brigade's staff functional area specialists' abilities of planning defensive and offensive operations in the military decision-making framework in composition of a multinational division.
The training was two-fold: in the first phase combat training cycle and planning of defence operations in 2011 and 2012 was discussed, during the second phase planning of defensive operations for the running and the following year began. During the training the participating troops modelled a variety of operational scenarios: defensive operations were conducted with regard to characteristic Lithuania's terrain while offensive operations - according to Estonia's landscape features.
The training provided an excellent opportunity for sharing operational planning experience for Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian brigade staffs.
The Command Staff of the MIB "Iron Wolf" has been collaborating with the Danish Division for 7 years in collective training of staff personnel and have been attending training events of the DATS as part of the LITBRIG project.
LITBRIG is a bilateral military cooperation project endorsed by Lithuania and Denmark in 2005 to the end of reaching full readiness of the MIB "Iron Wolf" and the entire Brigade for the full spectrum of NATO operations in line with NATO requirements by the end of 2014,and for ensuring a systemic and purposeful work and responsibility of the units of the Lithuanian Armed Forces involved in the project.
