On June 12 Commander of the Lithuanian Air Force attended Distinguished Visitors Day at the European Air Transport Training 2013 (EATT13) flying event coordinated by the European Defence Agency (EDA) in Zaragoza, Spain. There he discussed the possibility for the Lithuanian Air Force to participate in such exercises from 2014 with representatives of the participating nations - Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and Sweden, and members of the Core Planning Team.
EATT13 is a unique opportunity for the EU air personnel to share their experience and to train different tactical airlift missions: cargo and personnel airdrops, tactical navigation and threat reactions, tactical air land operations, short field landings, formation flying, night operations, aeromedical evacuation, etc. It is the first invitation ever for Lithuania to engage in a training event of such nature.
The European Air Transport Fleet (EATF) is an EDA project aimed at enhancing cooperation in military air transport through the use of existing and future airlift assets made available by the parties to the project. In 2008 Defence Ministers of twelve EU Member States (Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia and Spain) signed a Declaration of Intent to express their determination and commitment to address the critical European airlift shortfalls via developing the European Air Transport Fleet. Lithuania has been a part of the project since 2011.
From June 13 to 15 General Mažeikis will be attending a European Air Force Commanders meeting in Eindhoven (the Netherlands) where contemporary challenges for the air forces will be addressed.
