November 5, Commander of the Lithuanian-led Chaghcharan PRT under the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Col Nerijus Stankevičius and Commander of the Civilian Element Eugenijus Vaicekauskas visited Tulak, western district of Ghor province with Gen Sayed Asadullah Alumayar, head of Operational Coordination Centre of Ghor, Brig Gen Khudayar Qodusi, Chief of Afghan National Police in Ghor, and Assistant Head of the Directorate for National Security Abdul Same. The officials addressed key points for the life of population of the district.

 

It was the first meeting of PRT members and representatives of Ghor security structures in Tulak district so far. The delegation travelled to one of the most remote districts by UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters forwarded by the Regional Command-West, superior command of the Lithuanian-led PRT.

 

Representatives of the PRT and Ghor security structures visited the base of local police in the centre of Tulak were they met with representatives of local administration, security forces and local community. They addressed security, education, healthcare and agriculture matters, participation of the community in the provincial reconstruction projects as well as cooperation with provincial institutions of authority. They also looked into major problems faced by local population.

 

Currently the 13th rotation of PRT ensures security in Ghor. Military element of the PRT is based on King Mindaugas Mechanised Infantry Battalion. In November PRT-14 formed from volunteer servicemembers of the 5th Territorial Unit of the Vytis Military District of the Lithuanian National Defence Volunteer Force.

 

Lithuanian-led PRT in Ghor is a joint civilian and military mission, a part of NATO's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), launched in the province in summer of 2005. The essential task of the mission is to support Afghan government in extending its authority in the province, ensuring security and creating conditions for provincial reconstruction.

 

Staff of the Lithuanian-led PRT in Chaghcharan includes Denmark's, Georgia's, Japan's, US, Poland's, Finland's, Bulgaria's and Ukraine's representatives alongside Lithuanian military and civilian personnel.
