Members of French Air Contingent conducting Baltic Air-policing mission visited a school: familiarised with Lithuanian traditions and tried traditional dishes

Members of French Air Contingent conducting Baltic Air-policing mission visited a school:...

March 2, French troops currently protecting Baltic skies and Lithuanian counterparts from LAF Šiauliai Airbase visited Romuva Main School of Šiauliai.

The guests were invited into an impromptu lesson of Lithuanian cuisine and could taste cold beet soup, potato „didžkukuliai" (also called „zeppelins"), fried bread with melted cheese, „šakotis" (similar to Baumkuchen), and others that were baked or cooked by pupils and teachers of Romuva Main School of Šiauliai.

Guests of the French Air Contingent also listened to a presentation made by pupils in French on cuisine traditions of ethnographical regions of Lithuania, later they were entertained by national dances and songs. In their turn guests promised to organise a similar event at the school in the nearest future and give pupils and teachers a chance to try national French cuisine.

It has been a third visit of French troops at Romuva Main School of Šiauliai during the history of NATO Baltic Air-policing mission: such events help pupils improve their knowledge of the French language and French culture.
