On October 17 Chiefs of the Defence Staffs of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia discussed projects of trilateral defence cooperation at a Baltic Military Committee meeting in Vilnius.
The Baltic countries in the Committee were represented by Chief of the Defence Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Maj Gen Vitalijus Vaikšnoras, Chief of Staff of the Latvian Armed Forces Joint Headquarters Brig Gen Ivo Mogiļnijs and Chief of Staff of the Estonian Defence Forces Maj Gen Martin Herem.
Chiefs of Defence and Joint Staffs Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia discussed as the Baltic Military Committee the course and prospects of joint Baltic projects - Baltic Battalion (BALTBAT), Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL), Baltic Air Surveillance Network (BALTNET), and more opportunities for cooperation.
The guests from Latvia and Estonia also spent time taking interest in the history of Lithuania during visits to the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania National Museum.
The Baltic Military Committee meets twice a year: Chiefs of Defence meet every spring, and Chiefs of Defence Staffs - every fall. In 2018 Lithuania chaired the Committee, in 2019 the duties will pass on to Estonia.
