BALTBAT exercise „Intelligent Eagle 10" organised


 

March 22-26, soldiers of Lithuanian and Estonian Armed Forces commissioned to the Baltic Battalion will take part in BALTBAT exercise for staff and platoon commanders' „Intelligent Eagle 10" hosted by Lithuania.

 

In the exercise command and control procedures and interoperability of the Battalion's units will be drilled. The majority of Lithuanian soldiers in the exercise will be sent by the Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas Mechanised Infantry Battalion.

 

The training event will be conducted in several phases: surveillance of a fictitious operation area, elaboration on operation plan and preparation for combat actions training to take place in Kėdainiai and Panevėžys Regions.

 

Platoon commanders' exercise has been held for a second time since the Baltic Battalion began duty in the Land Component of the NATO Response Force (NRF-14) in January of 2010.

 

BALTBAT was formed of Lithuania's, Latvia's, and Estonia's military in 2007. One third of Lithuanians assigned to the trilateral unit comes from the Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas Battalion. BALTBAT is led by Lithuania.

 

BALTBAT will serve with NRF for half of a year. The 14th rotation of NRF led by Denmark is constituted by military contributions of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Spain, Italy, the UK, Poland, the Netherlands, Norway and Hungary.

 

NATO Response Force is high-readiness and technologically advanced allied force made of land, air and maritime components capable of quick deployment at any time in any place for a full spectrum of operations. National units assigned to NRF maintain high readiness level in their home countries and are ready to deploy to the spot of multinational operation once the decision has been made by NATO military command.
