On October 21 multinational brigade-level Exercise Silver Arrow 2016 attended by over 3 thousand participants from Albania, Canada, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Romania, UK, and the US began at Adazi Training Area in Latvia. The exercise will run until October 31.
Elements of the Baltic Battalion on standby for the NATO Response Force (NRF-16) will be assigned to the Latvian brigade for the multinational exercise. Also, 1st Infantry Company, Lithuanian Grand Duke Butigeidis Dragoon Battalion, Motorised Infantry Brigade Žemaitija, manned by the Continuous Mandatory Initial Military Service, will undergo evaluation at Exercise Silver Arrow 2016. Soldiers with the Lithuanian Grand Duke Kęstutis Mechanised Infantry Battalion will join the exercise on October 24.
The aim of the multinational exercise is to enhance cooperation between the Armed Forces of Latvia and NATO allies, and the ability to integrate combat support into professionally planned and implemented defensive and offensive operations.
