On October 31 Chiefs of Defence of the Baltic states concluded a two-day meeting in Tallinn signing a joint declaration defining further efforts to strengthen defence cooperation.
The Lithuanian, Estonian and Latvian delegation presented the most recent introductions in national defence capability development, continuity of assistance to Ukraine and further directions of the Baltic defence cooperation. Particular attention was paid to enhancement of target setting procedures, military logistics and implementation of the Baltic Defence Line.
“Airspace surveillance and defence, recognized maritime picture, information exchange, military education at the Baltic Defence College, as well as development of the Baltic Defence Line, are the areas we need to address as a team. Our region faces mutual challenges and that requires a coordinated and swift response,” said Chief of Defence General Raimundas Vaikšnoras.
The Joint Declaration laid out the agreed way forward developing a standing Baltic target setting coordination mechanism, strengthening the regional military logistics system, developing air and maritime surveillance capabilities and implementing the Baltic Defence Line project.
The Baltic CHODs meet annually in one of the member states on a rotating basis. This year the event was hosted by the Estonian Defence.
