Chief of Defence attends an EU Military Committee conference

October 25-26, Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lt Gen Valdemaras Rupšys attends an EU Military Committee Chiefs of Defence conference in Brussels (Belgium).

General V. Rupšys and his EU counterparts will discuss the Strategic Compass, the revision of EU Battlegroup, swifter EU response and input in the threats facing the member states.

A session on EU missions and operations will address the new EU mission in Mozambique to which Lithuania plans deploying two officers. The discussion on EU training missions will take stock of their efficiency.

Significant attention will be paid to expanding assistance to Ukraine and assessment of opportunities for the new training mission in Ukraine.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the EU Military Committee (French: Comité militaire) is the highest structure of military command that forms advice and recommendations in the area of the Common Security and Defence Policy and military missions and operations. The committee is formed by Chiefs of Defence of the member states and meets twice a year in Brussels.
