Chief of Defence attends European Union Military Committee meeting

January 28 Chief of Defence Lt Gen attends an extraordinary video teleconference meeting of the European Union Military Committee.

Presided over by EUMC Chairman General Claudio Graziano Chiefs of Defence will discuss the German initiative – the Strategic Compass – focusing on the development of EU rapid deployment capability.

The European Union Military Committee is the highest military institution of the European Union made up of the Chiefs of Defence of the EU member countries. The Committee leads military activity of the EU, primarily, planning and conduct of military missions and operations of the Common Security and Defence Policy and development of military capabilities, as well as renders military advice to the EU Political and Security Committee which is in charge of common Foreign and Security Policy of the Union. The NATO Chiefs of Defence convene for the EUMC meetings twice a year.
