Chief of Defence of Estonia will pay a visit in Lithuania

 

On March 13 and 14 Chief of Defence of Estonia Brig Gen Riho Terras will pay a work visit in Lithuania. It will be the first visit of Brig Gen R. Terras who assumed the duties in December 2011 in Lithuania, therefore the key goal of the visit will be of an awareness character - to familiarize with the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

 

During the two-day visit the guest will meet with the Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė, Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lt Gen Arvydas Pocius, members of the Committee on National Security and Defence of the Seimas. He will also pay a visit to the Air Surveillance and Control Command in Karmėlava and the Motorised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf in Rukla.

 

In the meetings with the leadership of the Lithuanian National Defence System and the Armed Forces points of Lithuania's and Estonia's bilateral defence cooperation, initiatives of the Baltic military cooperation, joint projects and the opportunities of cooperation in the context of Smart Defence will be discussed.

 

Lithuanian-Estonian cooperation is developed under an annually signed trilateral Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian military-political cooperation plan. Lithuanian and Estonian troops collaborate in long-term joint projects: BALTRON - a joint Baltic naval squadron whose purpose is to neutralize unexploded naval ammunition in the Baltic Sea and participate in peacekeeping operations, BALTNET - the Baltic Air Surveillance and System (integrated into the NATO Integrated Air Defence System in 2004 ) and BALDEFCOL - the Baltic Defence College in Tartu, Estonia, where officers of the Baltic States and the allies are trained in accordance with NATO standards.
