On May 19–20 Chief of Defence of Lithuania General Raimundas Vaikšnoras is in attendance at the NATO Military Committee Conference and the European Union Military Committee Chiefs of Defence Meeting where the most senior Allied military leaders discuss strengthening NATO’s collective defence and deterrence, Europe’s defence readiness, adaptation to modern warfare, development of innovation and military capability, NATO-EU cooperation and aspects of security of the Eastern Flank.
Chief of Defence of Lithuania will be meeting with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States General Dan Caine, and with the Baltic counterparts – with Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) General Alexus Grynkewich to directly address security of the region. The y are expected to discuss the regional security situation, defence of the Eastern Flank, the U.S. rotational presence in the region, and additional Alliance assistance to address the recent air incidents in the area.
“Security in our region is very strongly dependent on the American presence, therefore, we will seek more ways and additional contact points to make the cooperation even stronger. Today, Lithuania is an exemplary Ally based on our approach to defence and defence spending. We offer excellent conditions for the U.S. rotations to deploy, train and act in Lithuania, therefore it matters to us to make sure the U.S. military presence in the region is maintained. Lithuania also consistently supports the United States and the Allies in the wider security context, including the effort to ensure security in strategic regions, such as the Strait of Hormuz. These are specifically the topics we ae going to discuss with SACEUR General Grynkewich and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine,” said Chief of Defence Raimundas Vaikšnoras.
The NATO Military Committee Conference is the highest level NATO military event gathering the Allied Chiefs of Defence to discuss military operations, defence plans and military capability development.
