January 26-27, Chief of Defence of Lithuania Maj Gen Arvydas Pocius will take part in the meeting of NATO Military Committee held in Brussels, Belgium. This is the first meeting of Military Committee held after Lisbon NATO Summit.
In a three-day tour of meetings and discussions Allied Chiefs of Defence will address military aspects of NATO's New Strategic Concept implementation, NATO transformation process and ongoing military operations.
Maj Gen A. Pocius will also participate in the NATO-Ukraine Commission meeting, where transformation of Ukraine Armed Forces will be discussed.
NATO Military Committee is the top-most NATO's military structure of command subordinate to the North Atlantic Council, and Defence Planning and Nuclear Planning Committees.
Military Committee passes military strategic decisions and drafts military advice for the North Atlantic Council which is in charge of approving political decisions. Day-to-day work in the Military Committee is done in sittings of military representatives delegated by NATO states.
Top-level meetings of the Military Committee usually take place three times per year. Two of them are hosted by Brussels and one - by a NATO member state on a rotational basis.
