On June 7-9 Moldova's Chief of National Army General Staff Brigadier General Igor Cutie and a delegation are conducting his first official visit in Lithuania.
The guest was formally met with a ceremony in the Ministry of National Defence square on June 8. The guest then met with Lithuania's Chief of Defence Jonas Vytautas Žukas, heads of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Joint Staff, Strategic Communications Department.
The Moldovan guest will proceed to visit Division General Stasys Raštikis Lithuanian Armed Forces School in Kaunas and the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf in Rukla to familiarise with capabilities and roles of these units. On June 9 the Moldovan Chief of Defence will be visiting the General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania.
At the meetings BG I. Cutie was briefed on the regional security situation, information threats, capabilities and development plans of the Lithuanian Armed Forces , military training and education system and opportunities. Bilateral military cooperation, prospects for its development, Moldova's relations with the European Union, NATO and Russia were also discussed.
Lithuanian -Moldovan defence cooperation
The defence cooperation between Lithuania and Moldova dates back to 2006 when a bilateral cooperation agreement was signed at ministerial level. Ever since, cooperation evets are arranged according to annually approved cooperation plans. Over the time of cooperation more than 80 Moldovan military personnel graduated from various qualification courses at military education institutions of Lithuania.
The cooperation plan for this year includes Lithuania's support to Moldova in military education and training area, consultations regarding training military medics an conscription and reserve specialists have already taken place. Other planned events are expert-level consultations between strategic communication, public relations, and capability planning specialists, expert support with NATO specialists in the reform of Moldovan NCO training and career system.
