Chief of Defence Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces visiting troops in Afghanistan

Chief of Defence Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Major General Vitalijus Vaikšnoras is visiting Lithuanian soldiers deployed in Afghanistan. He began the visit with a meeting with the Lithuanian special operations s leadership in Bagram, later met with Lithuanian military personnel serving in Kabul and leadership of Operation Resolute Support.

 

Chief of Defence Staff also visited Lithuanian soldiers in Kandahar and Herat and met with military leaderships of the regions.

 

"Modern threats are global in character, therefore the response to them is the same. Lithuanian soldiers alongside their allies and partners support the fight against such threats where they originate. Lithuanian soldiers have shown by their resolve and hard work that they are full-fledged providers of security guarantee. The leadership of the multinational operation and local community appreciates them," Maj Gen Vitalijus Vaikšnoras said.

 

Currently over 50 Lithuanian soldiers from the Land Force, Defence Staff, Training and Doctrine Command, Military Police, and Special Operations Forces are serving in Afghanistan. Some of them are deployed to the Operation Resolute Support HQ and the base in the vicinity of the airfield in Kabul, and in the Regional Command - West in Herat. The special forces troops are serving in Kandahar in the south of Afghanistan.
