On September 26–27 Chief of Defence of Lithuania General Raimundas Vaikšnoras attended the Conference of the highest military authority in NATO, the NATO Military Committee, in Riga. The Conference addressed implementation of the decisions taken at the NATO Summit in The Hague, particularly dwelling on strengthening collective defence and deterrence.
“The NATO Military Committee is more than just a get-together of CHODs. This is where strategic decisions are translated into specific military guidance for NATO forces. The key concern of Lithuania and the whole Eastern Flank is to ensure the focus on practical measures for strengthening our defence, such as Baltic Sentry, or Eastern Sentry, to enforce NATO plans in our region,” said General Raimundas Vaikšnoras.
Attended by strategic commanders, including General Alexus G. Grynkewich, Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), and Admiral Pierre Vandier, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT), the Conference was presided over by Chairman of the ANTO Military Committee Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone.
The NATO Military Committee is the highest level of military authority comprised of all 32 NATO Chiefs of Defence. The body provides military advice to the North Atlantic Council (NAC) on tackling the arising challenges. The NATO Military Committee convenes twice a year at the NATO Headquarter in Brussels and once a year it is hosted by one of the Allied nations, Like Latvia in 2025.
