Chief of Joint Staff of Latvia visited Joint Staff of Lithuanian Armed Forces


February 18, Brig. Gen. Andis Dilāns Chief of Joint Staff of Latvia and delegation paid a visit to the Joint Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces (Vilnius). Military representatives of Latvia met with Chief of Joint Staff Brig. Gen. Algis Vaičeliūnas and heads of boards of the Joint Staff. The guests shared experience of participation in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) operation in Afghanistan, touched upon plans with the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

 

Multinational operations Lithuania is currently involved in with the main focus on activities of the Lithuanian-led PRT deployed in Ghowr and of the Special Operations Squadron deployed in southern Afghanistan under ISAF, were represented to delegation led by Brig. Gen. A. Dilans.

 

In their turn representatives of the Latvian delegation shared experience of their Operational Mentor and Liaison Team's (OMLT) operation in Afghanistan; OMLT is tasked with training Afghan National Army.

Representatives of the Joint Staff represented to Latvian counterparts international „Amber Hope" exercise Lithuania plans to host in 2011 and invited them to join the event.

 

„Visit of Chief of Joint Staff of Latvia is a good opportunity to address closer cooperation in conducting joint development projects, and share lessons learnt while participating in the Afghanistan mission. I am convinced that enhancement of cooperation will benefit both, Lithuanian and Latvian armed Forces", summarized after the visit Chief of Defence Staff of Lithuania Brig. Gen. A.Vaičeliūnas.

 

Chief of Joint Staff of Latvia Brig. Gen. A. Dilans invited Chief of Joint Staff of Lithuania to pay a visit to Latvia to discuss in detail points relevant to operational staffs of both countries.
