Chief of the Defence Staff attended a multinational military cooperation conference

Chief of the Defence Staff Rear Admiral Giedrius Premeneckas took part in an operational-level multinational military cooperation conference in Germany, Dresden.  The event pulled together senior military representatives and NATO Command Structure commanders to discuss strengthening of the collective defence and mutually faced challenges to international security.

“This was an excellent platform for discussing relevant themes, share best practices and continue forging a stronger cooperation. Lithuania has accumulated significant experience in response to hybrid threats that we can share with the Allies and learn from their experience in return. That way, we build national capabilities as well as collective readiness to respond to the ever-changing security environment,” said Rear Admiral Giedrius Premeneckas.

Analysis of the security situation in the Baltic Sea region and the most recent geopolitical developments were particularly a focus of the Conference participants. They also addressed the growing threats to European security, hybrid threat challenges and the necessity to continuously strengthen NATO deterrence and defence.  Another highlight of the Conference was coordination of collective action, integration of operational capabilities, strengthening mutual cooperation and practical measures for responding to potential emergencies quicker and more effectively.

An important portion of the Conference was dedicated to directions of development of multinational cooperation: more effective employment of existing forces and infrastructure, improvement of interoperability and strengthening the ties among national and NATO operational headquarters.   As it was noted, only a tight cooperation can ensure a sustainable security throughout the Baltic region.

Lithuania and Germany signed a bilateral agreement committing to regularly arrange meetings of different level. Such bilateral contact will facilitate information exchange, standardize military training and coordinate projects for the stationed German Brigade and infrastructure built for it.

The Conference was attended by North American, Northern and Eastern European and NATO Command Structure operational commanders and leaders. Discussions among the participants led to agreement that only a consistent, lasting and coordinated collective work can ensure regional security, while mutual commitment and information sharing were key in readiness for any scenario.
