Chief of the Defence Staff RADM Giedrius Premeneckas attended the strategic level (L4) career course opening ceremony at the Baltic Defence College in Tartu, Estonia.
Addressing strategic (L4) and operational (L3) level officer career course participants and the BALTDEFCOL community, RADM Giedrius Premeneckas overviewed the complex regional and global security situation, the challenges it presented and its influence on defence capability development. He highlighted the importance of tight regional and international cooperation, as well as the role of innovative technology, advanced solutions and modern concepts in strengthening military capabilities and increasing NATO’s collective deterrence and defence.
“The security environment of today calls not just for professionalism but also adaptive and comprehensive approach, quick readjustment and ability to act with the Allies. The Baltic Defence College is an excellent example of experience exchange and joint learning with NATO Allies being a factor of strengthening not just national but also Alliance capabilities,” said RADM Giedrius Premeneckas.
RADM Giedrius Premeneckas also met with the BALTDEFCOL leadership. He was briefed of BALTDEFCOL activities, syllabuses, and teaching methodology, also, prospects of BALTDEFCOL development and its adaptation to the security environment and NATO requirement shifts were discussed. The important role of the Baltic Defence College in training senior officers in an international environment was underscored.
The Baltic Defence College was established in Tartu, Estonia, in February 1999. It is a joint project of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia to enable further professional development for senior officers and enable their integration in NATO structures. It is one of the most successful trilateral Lithuanian-Latvian-Estonian projects that is also joined by partner nations U.S., Poland, the Nordic countries, etc., with teaching staff contributions.
