Chief of the Royal Norwegian Navy on visit in Klaipėda

On November 11 through 13 Rear Admiral Bernt Grimstvedt, Chief of the Royal Norwegian Navy and his delegation are conducting a formal visit at the Lithuanian Navy (LITHNAVY) in Klaipėda.

During the visit the high guest has met with Commander-in-Chief of the Lithuanian Navy Rear Admiral (l.h.) Kęstutis Macijauskas with whom relevant matters of the Royal Norwegian Navy and the Lithuanian Navy as well as further bilateral cooperation in maritime areas and other relevant points have been discussed.

LITHNAVY military personnel have presented to the guest the activity of the Lithuanian Navy, the Maritime Rescue Coordination and the Joint Control and Reporting Centres. The high-ranking guest also paid a visit to the Naval Flotilla where he viewed military vessels of different types, their installations and the equipment used by the Underwater Action Team.

The Lithuanian Navy is developing an intense cooperation with the Royal Norwegian Navy. In the period from 1994 to 2006 the Lithuanian Navy obtained one "Storm" class vessel from Norway on a non-reimbursable basis and acquired two more under favourable conditions. Several officers of the Lithuanian Navy underwent basic officer training at the Royal Norwegian Naval Academy, ordinary troops were delegated to specialised courses in Norway. Lithuanian and Norwegian military vessels attend joint maritime training events. Norwegian mine countermeasures naval assets have been delegated to mine countermeasures operations in the territorial waters of Lithuania on a multifold basis.
