On February 13 Chiefs of Staff of the three Baltic states held and informal meeting in Vilnius and Rukla. Generals discussed projects of trilateral defence cooperation and the Baltic Defence Line.
Lt Gen R. Baltrėnas briefed guests from Latvia and Estonia Maj Gen Georgs Kerlings and Maj Gen Vahur Karus on defence capability building topics which are currently relevant to Lithuania and the entire region. During the visit to Rukla the guests toured the countermobility park in the Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf.
“Seeking effectiveness, we continue coordinating the practical implementation of countermobility measures with the neighbors in terms of the NATO regional plans and our national requirements. We continue strengthening the Baltic Defence Line and deciding an all the details with them,” pointed out Lt Gen R. Baltrėnas.
At the meeting, the NATO Multinational Battle Group Lithuania and progress on stationing the German Brigade was discussed. As it has been announced earlier, the NATO Multinational Battle Group Lithuania will be integrated in the command structure and composition of the German Brigade Litauen in 2026.
Informal Chiefs of Staff meetings typically address implementation of political and military decisions to ensure the work is properly coordinated at headquarters level. This trilateral Baltic cooperation allows to coordinate and use resources effectively to contribute in strengthening NATO capabilities and ensuring the Baltic region security.
