September 27-29, Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force Maj Gen Jonas Vytautas Žukas for the first time represented Christian soldiers of the Lithuanian Armed Forces in Apostolat Militaire International (AMI) annual general assembly and conference held in Berlin.
In this conference 13 states were represented by secular troops, military chaplains, and bishops. They discussed attitude of nations towards freedom , freedom and security of soldiers, ethical principles of soldiers, important changes within Europe's society and armed forces, reviewed religious and spiritual situation in national armed forces of some European states.
Before a decade AMI organisation issued a declaration in a general assembly in Roma opening exploration into the way Christians in serving in military structures across the world understand peace and global kinship of people.
In 2005 an analogous AMI assembly was held in Lithuania, Gen Adolfas Ramanauskas Warfare Training Centre of the Lithuanian Armed Forces in Nemenčinė.
Long-lasting participation of Lithuanian troops in the activities of the Christian organisation reveal their interest in Christian values, and their recognition of their secular responsibility to proliferate those values in their milieu.
