March 28-29, Commander of the Lithuanian Navy Adm (R) Kęstutis Macijauskas is conducting a work visit in the Kingdom of Sweden. During the visit the leading officer of the Lithuanian will meet with Commander of the Royal Navy of Sweden Adm (R) Jan Thörnqvist with whom a discussion over the cooperation perspectives of both countries' navies, the possibilities of exchanging naval surveillance information, organization of joint military training events and training and improvement courses for Lithuanian naval personnel in Sweden is expected to take place.
Lithuania and Sweden are connected by close bilateral defence cooperation. Sweden was among the first countries to launch cooperation with Lithuania when our country regained independence and has supported many material provision and training projects of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. Sweden provides financing for civilian-military cooperation projects in military education institutions of Sweden, a representatives of the Armed Forces of Sweden serves as the Deputy Commandant of the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL).
