Commander of the German Field Army Lt Gen Johann Langenegger visited the Defence Staff

On February 4 Chief of the Defence Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Maj Gen Vitalijus Vaikšnoras met with Commander of the German Field Army Lt Gen Johann Langenegger. The officers discussed defence cooperation between Lithuania and Germany and issues related of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group.


On February 4 the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group marked its second anniversary at a ceremony in Rukla. The unit is deployed in Lithuania for deterrence and defence.


The NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group deployed in Rukla since early 2017 is led by Germany. Troops with weaponry and equipment are also deployed by Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Luxembourg, Croatia, and Iceland. In total, roughly 8 thousand allied soldiers served in the unit on a rotational basis over the two years.
