On October 22 President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė awarded Commander of the German Field Army Lieutenant General Jörg Kurt Willy Vollmer the Cross of Officer of the Order for Merits to Lithuania in recognition of his leadership in Germany's decision-making process to lead NATO's enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group in Lithuania, top level professionalism and strong commitment to the defence of Lithuania and the entire Alliance.
"Lt Gen J. Vollmer is one of the people who contributed most to the deployment, formation and outfitting of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group in Lithuania. The act of affiliation of the Iron Wolf Brigade signed yesterday is also a result of a long and consistent cooperation with the Commander of the German Field Army. Thanks to his personal contribution and responsible approach to the defence of all of us we have a growing strategic partnership with Germany," Commander of the Land Force Brig Gen Valdemaras Rupšys said after the decorations ceremony.
The Agreement of Affiliation of the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf of the Lithuanian Armed Forces to a German Army division was signed on October 21 at the Ministry of National Defence by Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force Brigadier General Valdemaras Rupšys and Commander of the German Field Army Lieutenant General Jörg Vollmer. The agreement will allow the Iron Wolf Brigade to achieve readiness to act in composition of a superior military unit. Lithuanian officers are planned to be delegated to serve with the staff of a German division, courses for specialists and experience-sharing workshops are planned to be organised.
