Commander of the Lithuanian Navy took part in a ship transfer to Ukraine ceremony

Last week, Commander of the Lithuanian Navy Captain (Navy) Tadas Jablonskis with a delegation paid a visit to the Kingdom of Belgium where he took part in a ship handover to Ukraine ceremony and met with top command of Belgium’s Navy. 

At the ceremony, already the fifth ship of the Kingdom of Belgium was handed over to Ukraine, as part of the Belgian military assistance to Ukraine and support to Ukraine’s military maritime capacity. 

Multilateral and bilateral meetings held during the visit addressed the security situation in the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea regions, assessed pressing maritime challenges, and options for regional cooperation between the navies of Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, and Belgium. 

The Lithuanian delegation also paid a visit to BNS Oostende of the Belgian Navy to familiarise with the ship’s technical capacity, advanced equipment systems and scheduled tasks. 

When meeting bilaterally, the Lithuanian and Belgian representatives discussed prospects of further cooperation, topics of mutual relevance and options for strengthening partnership even more in the future.
