Denmark deployed 150 soldiers for joint training in Lithuania

Roughly 150 Danish troops arrived at the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf in Rukla this week to begin joint combat training with their colleagues from the Lithuanian Land Force. The Danish soldiers are planned to train in Lithuania until mid-December. This is the second time the Danish Defence deployed a rotational company for joint training in Lithuania.

At the moment two Danish platoons from Denmark's Guard Hussar and Jutland Dragoons Regiments are deployed in Rukla and preparing to start joint squad- and platoon-level exercises with Lithuanian soldiers.

Commander of the Iron Wolf Brigade Colonel Raimundas Vaikšnoras thanked the Danish troops and wished them get valuable experience in joint training with their Lithuanian colleagues.

The Danish military personnel brought M113 armoured personnel carriers, Mercedes Benz all-terrain vehicles, and logistical materiel of various roles.

In response to the Russian annexation of Crimea and the implementation of the assurance measures agreed in the NATO Summit in Wales, the United States and other NATO allies have been sending troops to take part in joint training and exercises in Lithuania and the other Baltic states since spring 2014.

Soldiers from Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Luxembourg, Portugal and the United States have already attended joint training and exercises with Lithuanian troops since 2014.
