On February 6 Deputy Commander of the Multinational Corps Northeast Major General Ulrich Hellebjerg paid a visit to the Defence Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
Chief of the Defence Staff Maj Gen Vitalijus Vaikšnoras and the guest discussed security situation in the region , topical aspects of defence planning and topics concerning NATO military units in Lithuania.
The Multinational Corps Northeast is responsible for our region and supports certification of all six NATO Force Integration Units (in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary) under its supervision as well as ensures equality of standard set for them. Based in Szczecin, Poland, Multinational Corps Northeast HQ reports to the Supreme Allied Command Europe (SACEUR). In 2017 it was certified as the Land Component Command of the NATO high-readiness forces. Currently it comprises the staff of roughly 450 civilians and soldiers, including 8 Lithuanian officers, from 19 countries.
The mission of the NATO Multinational Corps Northeast is to stand ready for a quick re-deployment and take command and control in an area of operation as directed by the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in the role of corps or land component command.
