Exercise Iron Wolf approaching conclusion, intense offensive and defensive operations underway

The last and the most intense phase of training began at Exercise Iron Wolf 2019-I in its second week - nearly 4 thousand soldiers from 10 NATO allies are practising offensive and defensive actions in Lithuania.

"Original units of the Iron Wolf Brigade and other units assigned to it had an opportunity to train full spectrum of actions and procedures at the exercise: from raised alert level, march from the homebase to assembly areas, and execution of defensive and offensive actions, to integration of different weapon systems. At the moment the majority of exercise objectives have already been achieved ," Commander of the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf Colonel Mindaugas Steponavičius said.

Soldiers are "fighting" each other, "force on force", in the training conducted in both, General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area in Pabradė and civilian areas around it. The "force on force" method helps to make exercise operations more realistic.

Soldiers are practising joint actions with assigned elements - combat and combat support units from Denmark, U.S., UK, and Poland have been assigned to reinforce Duke Vaidotas Mechanised Infantry Battalion and King Mindaugas Hussar Battalion.

Exercise Iron Wolf is a multinational exercise held to train the ability and and evaluate readiness to plan and conduct defence and to interact with allies and partners while completing joint operations in the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group, Duke Vaidotas Mechanised Infantry Battalion and King Mindaugas Hussar Battalion subordinate to the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf.
