Exercises Iron Wolf 2025-I and Storm Defender 2025 begin

The Lithuanian Armed Forces kicked off Field Training Exercise Iron Wolf 2025-I and Exercise Storm Defender 2025 conducted on the shore area on May 5.   

Organized as part of the umbrella exercise Griffin Lightning 2025, Iron Wolf 2025-I will run until May 16 at the Gaižiūnai Training Area and Jonava Region training approx. 3.7 thousand troops with 700 pieces of tactical equipment. The exercise will certify combat readiness and ability to execute defensive and offensive operations in Duke Vaidotas Infantry Battalion and the 17th Multinational Battlegroup who will train supported by other Armed Forces units and the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union. The exercise will encompass operational planning and execution, command post training, UAV integration in infantry unit tactics, active and passive anti-drone measures, medical and engineer tasks.  

The Harbor Protection and Coastal Defense Service with Allies from Portugal, structures and organisations of Klaipėda will run military Exercise Storm Defender 2025 on May 5–16 in the municipalities and regions of Klaipėda and Neringa. It will train maintaining port functions in crisis, emergency and while facing potential threats. Pedestrian and mounted and maritime movement of approx. 200 armed servicemembers will take place during the dark and light parts of the day. 

Local residents may see military columns on the roads and military aircraft in the air more frequently in May. All the training is a scheduled training period which is coordinated and synchronized with NATO Commands. A major part of the exercises which will take place in Lithuania will be a part of larger Allied exercises/deterrence operations, also, lower level training will be held across different Lithuanian Armed Forces units. The May training period will involve approx. 8000 military personnel from Lithuania and other NATO Allies.
