On July 27 Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Audronius Ažubalis paid a visit to the Lithuanian Air Force's Air Base in Šiauliai. He was met by Commander Lithuanian Air Force Maj Gen Edvardas Mažeikis and Commander of the Air Base Lt Col Virginijus Steponavičius.
After a short welcome Foreign Minister was familiarised with the purpose and functions of the Air Base, its Host Nation Support tasks in relation to the Baltic Air Policing mission, and briefed on the visa issuing to civilian and military passengers using LITHAF Air Base for transit.
After the meeting the guests were escorted by military personnel to visit the NATO Contingent - Mig-29 fighter-jets of the Polish Air Force. The guests were met and briefed by Commander of the Polish Contingent Lt Col Leszek Blach. Foreign Minister A. Ažubalis shook hands with the Polish troops and thanked for the mission. He presented to the contributing nation's personnel a collection of stamps depicting the most famous medieval battles of Lithuania, including the Battle of Tannenberg where Lithuanians and Poles opposed shoulder to shoulder their common adversary.
