On May 27 the fourth NATO Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft touched down at the Lithuanian Air Force Base besides the previous three AWACS siblings deployed in Šiauliai since April 23.
AWACS play a critical role in airspace monitoring, tactical control and rapid response to various emergencies. The capability detects targets at significant distances, coordinate air operations and transfers intelligence to air and ground-based forces, thus enabling NATO Allies to adapt to new security developments rapidly and enhance the overall security level in the region.
Deployment of NATO forces in the region is a critical demonstration of Alliance unity and a guarantee of seamless collaboration of Allied militaries ensuring task and Allied training effectiveness.
