On April 13–24 General Kazimieras Nestoras Fusilier Battalion of the Lithuanian Armed Forces with navy EOD teams of Lithuania, Portugal and the United States train in a trilateral improvised explosive device (IED) dispoasal exercise. The training is conducted at the Kairiai Training Area, water area of Klaipėda Seaport and Klaipėda City.
Exercise participants will carry out diving tasks, train underwater ammunition detection and neutralisation, conventional ammunition on-land neutralisation procedures, IED neutralisation, live fire, reconnaissance and mine clearance in the coastal area.
The exercise objective is to develop EOD divers’ proficiency in conventional ammunition and IED neutralisation on land, subsurface and in maritime environment, as well as to improve cooperation with the Allies through sharing best practices and experience in the field of EOD.
Over the course of the exercise (April 20–24) small pyrotechnic devices will be detonated in the Kairiai Training Area, water area of Klaipėda Seaport and in Klaipėda City, local residents are encouraged not to be disturbed. Live fire events will be confined to the Kairiai Training Area only. Tactical vehicles will not transgress into public roads.
