International fire support exercise Flaming Thunder 2022 takes place in Lithuania

On May 14 through 27 Flaming Thunder 2022, an international annual fire support unit exercise will be running at military ranges in Švenčionys and Klaipėda regions and Kazlų Rūda municipality. The exercise will train artillery units of the Lithuanian Land Force, NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group Lithuania, U.S. 3-66 armor battalion and 1st Battalion, 109th Field Artillery Regiment of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard with organic equipment.

The training units will hone their skills to effectively execute fire assignments, interoperability between allied joint fire support units, and undergo assessment.

The active phase, i.e. artillery systems and mortar live-fire, will take place at Kairiai and Pabradė Taining Areas on May 14–20, and on May 14–27 Joint Terminal Air Controllers (JTAC) will be training at Kazlų Rūda military range. Throughout the exercise, C2 will be provided by the Land Force Mission Command Element.

Exercise Flaming Thunder 2022 is an integral part of multinational U.S. Army Europe and Africa-led Exercise Defender Europe 2022 which involves approx. 9 thousand troops from 11 NATO allies and partner nations.
