On May 16-17 Chief of the Defence Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Maj Gen Vitalijus Vaikšnoras is attending meetings of the Multinational Joint Commission on Defense Reform and Security Cooperation with Ukraine (MJC) which coordinates international support to Ukraine's armed forces reform, in Kiev, Ukraine.
MJC includes Ukrainian, US, UK, Canadian, Polish, and Lithuanian representatives, and 13 subcommittees. Lithuania takes part in the subcommittees on the Army, Special Operations Forces, and the Military Police, and leads the Subcommittee on the NCO Reform. MJC will address Ukraine's defence and armed forces reform, assess the achieved progress, provide recommendations to the Ukrainian Armed Forces on increasing interoperability with NATO allies' armed forces, discuss way ahead and coordinate joint support.
The Lithuanian Armed Forces support Ukraine's reform, particularly in the area of military training. Since 2014, Lithuania's military instructors, both independently and alongside US, Canadian, British and Polish colleagues, have been taking part in the programme for training Ukraine's battalions, special operations forces, military police, and also have been contributing actively to the NCO system reform.
