March 27, Deputy Chief of Staff of NATO's International Security Assistance Force Maj. Gen C. Mora visited Lithuanian-led Chaghcharan Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT-10) of Ghowr, Afghanistan.

 

The high-guest was received by Commander of the Military Unit of PRT-10 Col. Gediminas Macijauskas, chiefs of PRT-10 staff divisions, civilian representatives of the Lithuanian Special Mission in Afghanistan, US Agency for International Development and Japan.

 

During the meeting Maj. Gen. C. Mora was briefed on the key projects undertaken by Ghowr PRT, sponsored development cooperation activities, tasks of CIMIC specialists, overall situation in the province, input made by PRT members, state organisations and NGOs functioning in the province, and local government and special features of their activity coordination conducted to reconstruct the province.

 

„I extend my thank-you for the efforts you make to implement the mission," said Maj. Gen. C. Mora. „Ghowr is very much different from other provinces of Afghanistan, especially in conditions of its nature - its remote location is hard to access not only in cold, but also in warm season. Contribution of the Provincial Reconstruction Team is really visible here, Kabul places great value on your activity as well," the guest said.

 

Maj. Gen. C. Mora has already visited the camp of the Lithuania-led PRT: in November 2009 he attended PRT rotation ceremony.

 

Lithuanian-led Provincial Reconstruction Team of Ghowr is a joint military-civilian mission operating under the NATO's International Security Assistance Force. Lithuania took responsibility for the PRT of Ghowr province based in Chaghcharan in summer of 2005. The main objective of the PRT mission is to assist the Central Government of Afghanistan to extend its authority throughout the province, to ensure security and to help built environment favourable for provincial reconstruction.

 

PRT-10 currently providing security in Ghowr is based on the 1st Territorial Unit of Dainava Military District of the Lithuanian National Defence Volunteer Force. Along with around 150 civilians and military from Lithuania representatives of Denmark, Georgia, Japan, USA, Romania and Ukraine serve in the Lithuanian-led Chaghcharan Provincial Reconstruction Team.
