Joint Control and Reporting Centre in Karmėlava passed under the command of a Lithuanian officer

On April 30 a change of command ceremony took place at the Joint Control and Reporting Centre (RCR) in Karmėlava. After a three-year term Lieutenant Colonel Fredi Karu (Estonian Air Force) was replaced by Major Povilas Cicėnas (Lithuanian Air Force).


The rotation of command ceremony was attended by Commander of the Lithuanian Air Force Major General Edvardas Mažeikis, Commander of the Latvian Air Force Colonel Aivars Mežors, and unit commanders.

 

 


The Joint Control and Reporting Centre in Karmėlava, a part of the NATO Integrated Air Defence System (NATINADS), contributes to securing sovereignty of Lithuania's, Latvia's and Estonia's airspace and control of NATO's airspace. The CRC manned by the three Baltic States provides control of NATO's fighter-jets performing the Baltic Air policing mission. The CRC is headed by a military representative of the Baltic States on a three-year rotational basis.
