From May 29 to 30 the Baltic Region Training Event (BRTE) XII, organized by Headquarters Allied Air Command Ramstein, took place in the Adazi Training Area, Latvia.
BRTE XII was focused on Forward Air Controller (FAC) training as well as training of the air squadron deployed on the NATO Air Policing mission in the Baltic States.
Two French Mirage 2000D aircraft, an Estonian L-39 jet, a Latvian Mi17 Search and Rescue helicopter, and United States of America A-10 Warthog aircraft rendering air-ground support were involved in the training event.
A US KC-135 tanker aircraft conducted aerial replenishment of Mirage 2000D and A-10. NATO Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) squadron from Poland currently conducting the Baltic Air Policing mission in Mig-29 from the Šiauliai Air Base trained QRA operations with landing at Riga International Airport.
BRTE XII also involved FACs from the three Baltic States and Poland, four members of the Forward Air Control Group of the General Romualdas Giedraitis Artillery Battalion.
Headquarters Allied Air Command Ramstein organises Baltic Region Training Events in one of the Baltic States on a regular basis.
