On April 5-11 military personnel of the Motorised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf staff, battalions and attached units are taking part in Exercise Yellow Knight, a training event held by the staff of the Danish Division in the Oksbøl military training facility, Denmark. Several hundreds of participants from the Baltic units affiliated to the Danish Division and the Division itself are training military operations as part of a multinational division.
80 troops from Lithuania with Latvian personnel and military participants from Estonian 1st, and Danish 1st and 2nd brigades will drill offensive operations, make tactical decisions and carry out additional planning. Troops will also hone procedures of control and liaison of units and indirect impact operations, coordinate their actions with civilian environment and other units, co-work with the Division Staff and carry out other tasks.
"Purposeful training of the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf in order to cooperate with NATO allies is one of our combat training priorities aimed at improving professionalism of commanders at all levels and of soldiers, and to test their ability to complete a spectrum of military operations as part of a superior unit," Commander MIB Iron Wolf Colonel Raimundas Vaikšnoras said.
The course of the training is two-part. The first phase covers preparation and coordination of actions, training according to specific military areas, information operations including civilian-military cooperation, military deception operations, and public information. The second phase will encompass non-stop battle control, planning and tactical decision-making actions with a computer conflict simulation system and a tactical trainer.
Multinational exercise Yellow Knight will close the autumn 2013-spring 2014 combat training cycle of the Danish Division which took off in Estonia last year. Lithuanian officers alongside other Baltic States' military attended training cycle Errant Knight of the Danish Armed Forces Division Staff. Later on, in early November, staffs of the Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian brigades affiliated to the Danish Division attended multinational command post exercise Red Knight where Baltic troops trained operational planning as part of a multinational division. The new training cycle of the Danish Division will take off this autumn.
