On July 11–12 the 503rd Infantry Company, 5th Territorial Unit, Vytis Military District, National Defence Volunteer Force, took part in a field training exercise in Latvia, Lion’s Leap. Personnel of the NDVF 5th Territorial Unit and the Zemessardze 53rd Battalion were improving interaction, rehearsing site protection and defence, and other tactical tasks in the area of Bauska.
The NDVF are regularly deployed to training exercises in the neighbouring country and Latvian territorial defence units are invited to train in Lithuania. The NDVF has the Trilateral Baltic Defence Cooperation Plan signed with territorial defence forces of Latvia and Estonia, as well as the bilateral cooperation agreement with the 1st Territorial Brigade of the Polish Territorial Defence.
The exercise served an excellent test of physical and tactical readiness, as well as of a steadfast proof of unity and mutual trust. Joint training supports tactical compatibility between units and the ir readiness to successfully carry out joint defence tasks.
