Lithuanian Navy Commander visited Germany

November 29 – 30 Commander of the Lithuanian Navy Captain (Navy) Giedrius Premeneckas conducted a visit to the German. During the visit to the headquarters of the Navy of the Federal Republic of Germany at Rostock Lithuanian Navy Commander met with Vice Admiral Kay-Achim Schönbach, Inspector of the Navy, for a discussion on the bilateral cooperation status, as well as further prospects and challenges to the security situation in the Baltic sea region.

During the meeting the German Chief of the Navy praised the close-knit cooperation with the Lithuanian Navy and underlined the importance of such cooperation for ensuring stability in the Baltic Sea region. The Lithuanian guest was debriefed on the prospects of further development at the German Navy and the projects underway at the moment. The Lithuanian side also visited the German Navy Corvette Squadron to learn about its capabilities and tasks.

The Lithuanian and the German Navies are connected by ties of longstanding cooperation. Germany once supported Lithuania in its efforts to form MCM capabilities, in the arrangement of Navy officer training, as well as on BALTRON and other projects. Germany warship conduct regular visits to Klaipėda harbor and joint exercises are held.
