A Lithuanian unit joined international Exercise Rapid Trident 2015 in the Yavoriv training area (Lviv Oblast, Ukraine), an exercise held annually by the U.S. Army Europe (USAREUR).
Over the period of nearly two weeks until July 31 Lithuanian soldiers will be practicing stability and peace support operations shoulder to shoulder with other exercise participants in composition of a multinational unit.
This year Rapid Trident involves approx. 1,800 troops from 18 NATO and partner countries: Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, UK, Ukraine and the United States.
Lithuania is represented by a unit formed by the Grand Duke Birutė Uhlan Battalion based in Alytus.
Lithuanian soldiers will be assigned to the headquarters of the multinational battalion and to a U.S. Marine company, and will train alongside U.S. Marines.
On July 24 Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas and Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force Major General Almantas Leika will visit participants of Exercise Rapid Trident.
